Creativity and Wellbeing: Why they belong together at work

By Olivia Ware, Executive Director, Many Minds

In a world where productivity is often prized above all else, we sometimes forget that creativity and wellbeing aren’t luxuries—they’re essentials. Many Minds is a mental health and performance charity that creates spaces where people can express themselves freely, and collaboratively, in a safe and accessible environment. More often than not, creativity is the spark that brings us back to ourselves.

Whether you’re building a brand, writing a pitch, or designing a product, creative work requires presence, play, and courage. But when stress, pressure, or isolation kick in, that flow can dry up fast. I’ve seen first hand how easily people can disconnect—from their ideas, from others, and even from their sense of purpose.

That’s why wellbeing isn't just about bubble baths and mindfulness apps. It’s about creating environments—like co-working spaces—that make people feel safe to try, fail, imagine, and connect. When we feel mentally supported, we create more freely and sustainably.

One of the joys of working in a co-working environment is the natural opportunities for collaboration. You overhear a conversation that sparks an idea. Someone gives feedback that unlocks a block. You realise you're not the only one wrestling with imposter syndrome.

At Many Minds, we design creative processes that are co-created, co-led, and co-owned. That’s not just for impact—it’s for resilience. Creative communities thrive when people feel empowered to bring their full selves into the room. The same is true in your workspace.

So how do we start to build a culture that supports creativity and wellbeing?

· Normalise rest – Breaks, quiet time, and even boredom can be breeding grounds for brilliant ideas.

· Prioritise connection – Regular check-ins, creative socials, or group brainstorms help build trust and openness.

· Champion neurodiversity –Different ways of thinking bring richness to problem-solving and storytelling.

· Get playful – You don’t need to be in the arts to benefit from creative expression. A lunchtime game or creative activity can do wonders.

Creativity and wellbeing are not two separate streams—they flow together. When we invest in one, we nourish the other. And in a co-working space, where boundaries between work and life can blur, there’s a beautiful opportunity to reimagine how we show up for both.

We want to build working cultures where ideas thrive because people feel good—not in spite of it.

Many Minds are running Creativity for Wellbeing workshops– interactive, energising sessions designed to spark fresh ideas, strengthen teamwork, and enhance workplace wellbeing.

By booking a session, you’re not just investing in your team—you’re also supporting Many Minds' vital work using creativity to improve mental health in communities. Every training helps fund our charity’s projects with people experiencing mental ill-health.
