Catching up with DeskLodge Bristol in 2018

January

A new year, a new start and a time to focus on taking care of ourselves and others around us we looked into combating loneliness in the workspace and meeting up with some coworking newbies to find out their experiences at DeskLodge.

With a flash of her magic wand, The Entrepreneurs Godmother, Alison Edgar returned with a film crew and another inspiring, Sales Coach Solutions workshop.

February

February came with hearts and flowers and girl power with events from the newly launched Women’s Tech Founders and a social media marketing event from the all-female team, Stephenson’s Law.

We also chatted with one of our PHD students about how coworking at DeskLodge has helped with productivity. Read our blog to find out more

March

In March, it snowed! DeskLodge managed to soldier on and remain open, even when the buses had stopped running, anything to help our DeskLodgers stay productive.

We celebrated International Women’s Day with a very successful event that saw women from many different backgrounds, from DeskLodgers to Bristol-based female collectives and businesses, talk about their empowering females, equality and how they got to where they are now, as a strong, independent woman! It was very empowering, and we shall definitely be holding this event again next year!

Wellbeing was a big focus for March. Bristol-based, Core Strength Studios held a workshop on posture and stress levels and DeskLodgers Deathio got straight to the point in their guest blog post on 'Not settling for a boring funeral'.

GDPR started to rear its ugly head and Stevenson’s Law and LCSW were there to help us out with events on how to prepare your business (and yourself for the hundreds of emails you were about to receive!).

Our annual Easter egg hunt went down a storm with some very happy DeskLodgers finding themselves a chocolate treat or two, it was an all-around sociable, mad and fun month!

April

April saw the end of the longest winter ever! In April? Really?

To celebrate we launched our Breakfast socials, a morning social event for early risers, people who can't attend the evening socials and those who really like a free breakfast, to get you started for a productive day! Remember the Breakfast Socials are on the first Thursday of every month from 8am-9am in the Indoor Garden.

The PHPSW meet up group returned to DeskLodge for their monthly meets and have been filling The Oak tree space ever since with this popular event.

Not content with giving our DeskLodgers just the Breakfast Social in April, we also turned up the DeskLodge perks to the max by introducing bi-weekly sports massages with Natasha Ryan (book in with the DeskLodge reception for your next massage) and we got a brand spanking new coffee machine as a big thank you to all of our coffee loving DeskLodgers!

The month ended with a fun-filled Quiz night ran by Dyson resident Liz Darville, the challenge - to beat Blu-wireless (our previous champions) and a mash-up team of hotdeskers and residents won! A great night had by all!

Why not read our blog post on holding an event at Desklodge?

May

Finally, the sun turned up, better late than never.

This month we focused on Mental Health Awareness Week and how we can bring this into the workspace, focusing on stress and wellbeing. It was a positive time where so many DeskLodgers opened up to start a conversation about their own personal issues with mental health and stress and how they cope. Please read our blog to find out more on dealing with stress in the workplace.

We had to say a fond farewell to our residents Dyson who have now outgrown our space and moved on. We are very happy to have been a part of the journey!

The month ended with our secret social event (you cannot imagine how difficult it was for us to keep quiet about the event) brought to us by Sofar Sounds who curate secret gigs in interesting and unusual spaces, which include live and relaxed, acoustic performance in our Oak Tree space. It was the most chilled out DeskLodge social ever! Find out more about what happened here.

June

We started June with a little staff away day, for a bit of team bonding and to discuss the future of DeskLodge, which is all very exciting.......but we can’t divulge any more info just yet!  If you would like to know more about how we build a coworking space, then read our latest blog post.

We are very excited to announce that we now have a DeskLodge Drawing Club, where people of all drawing abilities can get together and doodle alongside resident and graphic designer Rory Walker from Quadrotech. Join us, get creative and meet new friends!
