4 stress busters for instant work-calm

Whether you’re working in an office, at home, or somewhere in between, stress always has an annoying habit of getting to you. We’ve put together 4 super-easy ways you can kick stress into touch before things get too much.

1 – Get up and get moving

That’s right. Stand up, walk away from your desk and go and do something physical. Hit the gym, dust off your yoga mat, grab your running shoes or even just go for a walk. Did you know that stretching your legs for just 30 minutes every day can lower your heart rate and relieve stress and anxiety, while pumping up your endorphins? So take the dog out (they’re great listeners too). You’ll return to your desk with more energy and a healthy sense of perspective.

2 – Meditate to alleviate

The thing about stress is that it forms a jumbled mess in your mind. Things start to get on top of each other so what started off as a few little problems, suddenly seem like huge things you can’t deal with.  Meditation helps you focus your mind so that things become clearer, and the mess begins to dissolve away. And the best bit is that you can meditate anywhere you want, thanks to a range of really helpful apps. Some of our favourites include Headspace, Calm, Unplug and Buddhify. There are loads of different apps out there, so find the one that’s right for you and let your inner peace do its thing. Annnd relax.

3 – Take five. Or even ten!

Take time out when you feel the stress levels rising. Make yourself a brew, do a bit of weeding in the garden, knit more of that jumper, grab a healthy snack, do a crossword, read a chapter of your book… Basically, whatever you consider to be ‘me-time’ will give your mental wellbeing a big boost.

4 – It’s good to talk.

It’s all too easy to lose yourself in work and screens nowadays. In fact, you can go for hours without having any real human interaction at all. Just speaking to another human being does wonders for your mental health and stress relief. That’s one of the great things about how DeskLodge is set-up. We have loads of communal spaces, like the kitchen, where there will always be someone else to natter with. So wander over, grab a coffee, plonk yourself down and shoot the breeze. It doesn’t matter what you chat about – it could be absolute nonsense – but this social contact is vital for our health.
