What do you do to remain productive and focussed at work? Do you insist on a comfortable chair and desk? Yes, that’s a good start. Make sure there’s a steady stream of fresh air? Well, that can’t hurt either. Maybe a strong cup of coffee does the trick? Yes, we know that works. But have you ever considered your diet – and the role it plays of getting you at the top of your game?

The truth is, what we eat and drink affects how we perform at work. And there are some awesome foods that can help you keep sharp and alert.

1 Salmon

You’ve no doubt heard of omega-3 fatty acids. They’re tip-top for the health of your brain and increases memory and mental performance. It’s also pretty nifty in warding off depression. It’s win/win!

2 Dark chocolate

Let’s face it, none of us need much encouragement to tear open a bar of dark chocolate. And now there’s even more of a reason. Dark chocolate is great for a burst of energy because the caffeine. Oh yes, and it tastes just amazing. Yum.

3 Caffeine

It’s no secret that caffeine can help wake you up. But it can also energise you and help you concentrate. Great for working, or keeping up to speed in those long meetings (no one likes to nod off during the annual report). But it’s important to find your balance. Too much can make you a bit jittery and can compromise your performance.

4 Glucose

If you’ve already had your quota of coffee, try a glass of fruit juice instead. It’s packed with glucose, which is basically fuel for the brain. It can give you a short-term concentration boost. But, like coffee, don’t go overboard!

6 Avocados

Love‘em or hate ‘em, there’s no denying how brilliant avocados are for productivity. They enhance blood flow around the body, waking up brain cells and making you think like you can take on the world.

7 Nuts

Grab a handful of nuts every now and again and you’ll be giving your brain the liftin performance it needs throughout the day. Want to take it to the next level? Reach for almonds and walnuts – they’re chock full of the right ingredients.
